8 Rules for Skiing This Season

As an activity in the Covid-19 era, skiing has a lot going for it — it’s outdoors, people naturally distance by spreading out all over a mountain, and they’re used to covering their faces. What’s tricky is everything around skiing: renting gear, waiting in lift lines, sharing gondolas and chairs, crowding at mid-mountain restaurants, socializing at après spots.

And so mountain resorts across North America are adjusting their operations to the new reality, from restricting the daily number of skiers and riders to modifying schedules — Jackson Hole, Wyo., for example, will load some lower-mountain lifts earlier so guests can spread out faster.

Naturally, skiers and riders are perplexed: What will the experience be like? If you decide to go for snow, here are a few tips to help you make the most of this unusual season.

This winter, forget about impulse decisions to waltz in for

‘It’s going to be busy.’ How to navigate Charlotte’s airport during the holiday season

People flying through Charlotte Douglas International Airport could be in for packed lines this week, as the airport prepares to see its busiest days of travel since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The busiest single day of travel during the Thanksgiving holiday is expected to be this coming Sunday, with 22,000 passengers starting their travel from Charlotte, CLT chief operating officer Jack Christine said in a recent news conference at the airport.

Nov. 24, 25 and 28 are expected to be other high-traffic days around the Thanksgiving holiday, with roughly 17,000 passengers leaving Charlotte. Those numbers don’t include the “tens of thousands” of people flying through the airport with connecting flights every day, according to airport officials.

But those holiday travel numbers are still much lower than last year’s passenger tally. In 2019, the Charlotte airport averaged 33,000 to 38,000 people starting their travels out of CLT per day.

How Jets safety Ashtyn Davis has adjusted to starting opportunity in 1st NFL season

Ashtyn Davis still doesn’t have a car in New Jersey. So every day, the Jets safety rides a bike to practice.

The 2020 third-round pick has been staying at a hotel near the Jets’ training facility in Florham Park all season, so he has happily made the quick 10-minute rides each day.

Then it got cold, though the California native still doesn’t mind. He’s got his snow jacket and gloves for that.

While his transportation hasn’t changed, Davis’s rookie season has progressed with more opportunities on the field as the 2020 season has wore on.

Davis started the year with a role on special teams and some opportunities on defense, sometimes joining the group in three-safety packages. Then starting safety Bradley McDougald went on IR following Week 7, vaulting Davis into a starting role for the time being.

“It’s been fun. It’s a learning experience for me, playing strong safety,

Toronto Raptors to Start Season in Tampa Due to Coronavirus

Mike Ehrmann/Getty Amalie Arena

The Toronto Raptors are heading south for the winter.

Raptors President Masai Ujiri announced on Friday that the Canadian team will make its home base in Tampa, Florida, to begin the upcoming season due to restrictions in the country over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

“The Raptors worked diligently with public health officials at the local, provincial and federal level to secure a plan that would permit us to play our 2020-21 season on home soil and on our home court at Scotiabank Arena,” Ujiri said in a statement. “These conversations were productive, and we found strong support for the protocols we put forward.”

But Ujiri said that “ultimately, the current public health situation facing Canadians, combined with the urgent need to determine where we will play means that we will begin our 2020-21 season in Tampa, Florida.”
