Three candidates vie for Camarillo City Council District 3

Education History: Associate of arts degree in business from Moorpark College; bachelor of science in political science from CSU Northridge

Years in Elected Office: 23 on Camarillo City Council; Two on Board of Pleasant Valley Recreation and Parks District

If re-elected to the Camarillo City Council, what are the top three goals you would work to accomplish?

The Camarillo Economy: We have been able to implement several programs so far, such as a business recovery loan program up to $1 million, a business grant program for Camarillo businesses up to $5,000 per business (and $1 million total), and the speedy approval of Temporary Outdoor Business Safety Reimbursement Program (up to $250,000) for barriers and other safety measures. We will continue to monitor this situation and are prepared to enhance these programs as needed, as well as continuing to attract and expand our businesses community in Camarillo.

Public Safety: I believe it is necessary to continue to provide adequate funding for police and fire departments. This will ensure that they have the means necessary to do their critical job of keeping our residents and community safe. Furthermore, it is important to continue to work on the budget so that we have adequate levels of funding and training during this ever-changing time.

“Engage Camarillo”: This is a new program for our city that launched last month. It will enable us to reach out to our citizens and engage with them in the digital media, thus interacting with our constituents in a meaningful way. This is a forward thinking program that will use technology as a basis for communication.

If elected to the Camarillo City Council, what are the top three goals you would work to accomplish?

Support businesses, create jobs and seek out investments to grow our economy and end dependence on tax-based revenue.

• Attract forward-thinking industries, encourage innovation and lead with vision. 
• Support our existing businesses (especially during COVID-19) and help them thrive.
• Create good jobs and help hard-working people in our community succeed.
• Diversify the city’s investments, reducing its dependency on tax-based revenue.

Prioritize the lives of families, workers, veterans, and at-risk communities.

• Collaborate with communities and organizations for the common good.
• Build relationships and cultivate networks that work toward united solutions.
• Bring different opinions and subject matter experts to the table in order to make educated and well-informed decisions.

Employ collaborative leadership, bringing together communities and organizations for the common good.

• Make decisions that protect the earth and leave a better planet for future generations.
• Prioritize the lives of families, workers, veterans and at-risk communities.
• Learn from and respect our past, while creating sustainable solutions for the future.

Election 2020

Ballots: Most Ventura County voters will receive their ballots the week of Oct. 5. If not received by Oct. 16, voters should contact the elections office and request a second ballot be mailed. 

Deadline to register: Online by Oct. 19 and in-person only Oct. 20 to Nov. 3.

When to vote: Mail in ballots by Election Day or vote in person Oct. 31-Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 47 polling stations. You can also vote on Nov. 3 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
