Information and feedback can be left on special website regarding the Traverso section of the trail
The City of Canby is using an online open house to share a draft development plan for trail concepts along the Traverso section of Molalla Forest Road.
Those interested in more information and offering their opinions on the draft plan can do both at www.MFRTrail.org. Responses to the plan are due by March 26.
According to Calvin LeSeuer, economic development and tourism coordinator for the city, the development plan will be a guide for the city of Canby to move forward with trail design and seek funding to build the trail.
It includes trail design concepts, potential trail access points, and strategies for keeping the future trail safe and comfortable.
“The plan is a draft for public review. It will be finalized after we hear your comments,” LeSeuer said.
What is the Molalla Forest Road?
The Molalla Forest Road is a historical logging road that connects the Willamette River just north of Canby to the Molalla Recreation Area, south of Molalla. This project is looking at the Traverso section, the 3.3-mile stretch from Southeast 13th Street to South Macksburg Road.
Trail improvements on the Traverso section would provide a scenic and historical trail for walking, biking or riding horses.
The draft development plan includes conceptual ideas for how to build and maintain the trail.
• Trail designs. Draft trail designs were made for three segments of the Traverso section. Each segment has a different design to fit its unique needs. Two options are being considered for Segment 1. More study is needed to decide the best option.
• Trail operations. The draft development plan recommends ways to keep the trail safe and comfortable, like encouraging volunteer groups to help with maintenance and organizing neighbors to help watch the trail.
• Connection to the river. A new trail could include a place to access the Molalla River to allow swimming, boating and fishing. But more people using the river could harm the environment. The draft development plan does not make a recommendation because the project team is still weighing the pros and cons.
