All Oregonians eligible for COVID-19 vaccines April 19; Piluso steps out of school board race
Get vaccinated
Every Oregonian age 16 and older, who wants to be vaccinated, is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine begining Monday, April 19. Frontline workers and those in their households became eligible Monday, April 5.
Sign up with the Get Vaccinated Oregon tool online to confirm if you are eligible, to be notified when you are eligible, and for vaccination providers and opportunities. Sign up at getvaccinated.oregon.gov. For assistance call 211 or 1-866-698-6155.
Eligible Oregonians can also make vaccination appointments directly through pharmacies websites.
COVID-19 job resources
For people who don’t get COVID-19 paid leave through an employer and must quarantine or isolate, there is a temporary paid leave program through the state. Call 1-833-685-0850 or apply online at Oregon.gov/covidpaidleave
The Oregon Worker Relief Fund offers temporary aid to undocumented immigrants who lost wages because of the pandemic. Apply at 1-888-274-7292 or online at workerrelief.org
There is also temporary aid for agricultural workers who undertake self-quarantining while seeking medical assistance because of possible COVID-19 exposure. Apply at 1-888-274-7292 or online at workerrelief.org/quarantine-fund
Piluso steps out of school board race
Carla Piluso, who has served on the Gresham-Barlow School Board since 2009, decided to end her bid for another term.
Piluso was Gresham’s first female police chief and also served Gresham in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2015 to 2021.
She said she wanted a rest from the demands of public service. She also said she is impressed with the ideas and energy of younger civic-minded people and wanted to make way for a new generation.
Piluso did not run for reelection to the Oregon House and was replaced by Ricki Ruiz, who is 25 years old.
Piluso’s name will appear on the ballot for the Gresham-Barlow School Board, however, since she made her decision not to run too late for her name to be struck from the roster.
River Starts Here hosts video contest
Students in grades sixth through 12th grades are encouraged to create short videos about supporting clean rivers and streams. The contest is hosted by the River Starts Here, a partnership of clean water agencies, including Clackamas Water Environment Services. Entries are open to students in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties.
Videos should be 25-55 seconds and focus on everyday actions people can take for clean water or showcase the work of a community organization working for clean rivers and streams. A $500 first prize will be awarded for best community storytelling video; best clean water action video; best BIPOC filmmaker video; and people’s choice, based on social media engagement.

Register to vote
There is an important election coming up May 18 that will determine who will serve on local school boards and other offices. Tuesday, April 27, is the last day people can register to vote in this election or update their registration information.
Residents of Oregon who are citizens, and 16 years old and older, can register to vote online using the Secretary of State’s voting page. An Oregon driver’s license or state identification card from the Department of Motor Vehicles is required for online registration.

Gresham set for summer street repairs
Gresham’s transportation department will be “hitting the streets” this summer to rebuild the neighborhood roads in the worst condition across the city.
Since 2018, paving crews and contractors have rebuilt more than 93 lane miles of neighborhood streets with new asphalt fronting 4,878 properties. Crews have also rebuilt 695 sidewalk ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
This summer will be the fourth year of street repairs, and residents will receive notification in advance of any road work. The “Hitting the Streets” campaign is a five-year local street reconstruction project that runs through 2022.
