City, Republic alter bulk pickup times
Republic Services and the Mayor’s Office have decided upon a better agreement on the Bulk Pickup schedule to make it easier for residents to know their pickup day every month, said Deputy Mayor Jacob Pomasl.
This is for the two free bulk items. The days correspond with a resident’s normal trash collection day:
• Monday pickup will be the third Monday of each month
• Tuesday pickup will be the fourth Tuesday of each month
• Wednesday pickup will be the second Wednesday of each month
• Thursday pickup will be the second Thursday of each month
• Friday pickup will be the first Friday of each month
Logansport Parks to Host 4th Christmas in the Park
For the fourth year, The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department and its Foundation, will be offering a holiday display of lights at Spencer Park for the community and the surrounding area. Many sponsoring organizations and businesses are a part of this very special event. Christmas in the Park’s opening night will be Friday, Nov. 27, and will end following New Year’s weekend. The lights will remain on from dusk to dawn.
Several changes are being made to keep people safe from COVID-19. Before going, people should know the following:
• New this year, visitors will enter from East Broadway and Cass Plaza Road. As you enter Christmas in the Park, drive slowly, don’t pull over in any parking areas, and people MUST remain in their vehicles for their own safety.
• Pedestrians are not permitted. Both vehicles and guy & electrical wires pose a danger to pedestrians.
• There is no cost to enjoy the holiday lights. Though, an online donation will be accepted gratefully at https://flowto.it/P6J3wSvb?fc=0
• No volunteers will be on duty.
Candidate information for November
The League of Women Voters of Cass County invites the Cass County community to go to VOTE411.org for nonpartisan Cass County candidate information for the upcoming November elections. All candidates were invited to answer questions concerning their positions on issues and qualifications for the offices they are running for. Their answers were then entered into the site where they can be seen by the public. This is however, the first time Cass County League of Women Voters has participated.
BMV extends Election Day hours
All Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) branches will extend hours of operation today to issue ID cards and driver’s licenses to be used for identification at a polling place. Branches will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. All locations will remain open through the lunch hour.
As required by state law, branches will only process new, amended, or replacement ID cards, and renewed, amended, or replacement driver’s licenses and learner permits. New driver’s licenses and learner permits will be processed provided the customer has previously completed all required testing. Customers who are required to take a knowledge or driving skills exam to obtain or renew a license may choose to apply for a free ID card to use for voting purposes.
Individuals who hold a driver’s license or ID card that expired after the last general election (November 6, 2018) may use the expired card as proof of identification for voting purposes.
The paper interim credential issued to customers at the branch at the time of the transaction or after a customer has completed an internet transaction is acceptable proof of identification for voting purposes.
The Indiana BMV provides free, state-issued ID cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier who is a U.S. citizen, who can provide proper documentation, and who will be at least 18 years of age on or before the next general or municipal election. The following documents are required to obtain a new state ID card or driver’s license. A complete list of documents can also be found at IN.gov/bmv.
Proof of Identity document, such as a birth certificate or passport
Proof of Social Security document, such as a Social Security card, pay stub, or W-2
Proof of lawful status, such as a birth certificate or passport
Proof of residency, two documents such as a voter registration card, utility bill or bank statement, dated within the last 60 days
If your name has been legally changed and now differs from your identity document(s) (i.e., birth certificate or passport), proof of name change must be provided in order to obtain a state ID or driver’s license.
All branches will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Martin’s helping to feed hungry with program
The SpartanNash Foundation invites store guests to join the fight against hunger during its companywide fundraising effort through Nov. 8.

Property taxes due early November
Property taxes are due Nov. 10. There are multiple options to pay for those uneasy about doing it directly at the Cass County Government Building, there’s a drop box on Court Street between two yellow poles. Enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you would like a receipt. All payments mailed in and postmarked by Nov. 10 are considered on time. People can also use the on-line system at www.co.cass.in.us (there is a small fee). On the website, it’s in the treasurer’s section, so click on that.
Chicken and noodles at Walton American Legion Nov. 4
Due to the coronavirus, Walton American Legion, Post 418 will have a drive-thru carry out only chicken and noodle dinner from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 4. The dinner will be chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes and green beans for $6. This dinner is open to the public. Drive-up or call in orders at 574-626-2625.
Raising funds for Community Center
The Fulton Community Center is holding a fundraiser by is selling laundry soap, trash bags, laundry pods, dishwasher pods, and scent beads.
There are six different types of laundry soap comparable to Tide, 3 types comparable to Gain and are sold in 5-gallon buckets with pump for $35. Fabric softener is available in 5 different scents as well in a 5-gallon bucket with pump for $35. Laundry and dishwasher pods come in quantities of 225. Laundry pods are $40 and dishwasher pods are $35. Scent beads are 125oz. for $40. Trash bags come in 15-18-gallon, 33-gallon, and 55-60-gallon for $35.
Orders are due Nov. 4 and pick-up date is Nov. 14 at the Fulton Community Center from 9-11 am with a drive-thru weather permitting.

Bereavement support group
The Cass County Bereavement Support Group will meet 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at All Saints Church, 112 E. Market St. in Logansport.
The meeting is for anyone who is suffering the loss of a loved one.

Deer Creek hosting two meals in November
ALLBBQ of Delphi will be returning with his trailer to the Deer Creek Community Center on Friday, Nov. 6 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Meals cost $10 and people will have a choice of 1/4 chicken, pork rib tips, or pulled pork with choice of two sides.
Then, on Friday, Nov. 13, the community center will offer a drive-thru meal from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Fire-cooked ham and beans or vegetable soup, corn muffins and brownies are being offered as a drive-thru meal on Friday, Nov. 13 from 4:30-6:00. Free-will donations will be accepted.
Proceeds from both meals are for ongoing expenses and the future carpet replacement project.
United Commercial Travelers meeting
Cass Council of United Commercial Travelers (UCT) will hold its monthly meeting Wed., Nov. 11, 6:30 p.m. at Happy Burger East, 3131 E. Market St., Logansport.

Extension Homemakers Annual Craft Show coming Nov. 14
The Extension Homemakers Annual Craft Show will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. There will be baked goods, welded metal art, jewelry, goat milk products, wooden toys and signs, doll clothes, rag rugs, custom T-shirts, and more. Hot food for lunch, including homemade soup, will be available to eat there or “to-go.”

Delta Theta Chi sorority has cancelled this year’s November Holiday Home Show. The organizations hopes to see everyone in November 2021.
River of Life cancels Thanksgiving meal
River of Life Christian Church regrets that it will not be hosting their annual Thanksgiving Dinner this year due to Covid-19. After much discussion it has been determined that the dinner cannot be prepared or served in a manner that would be safe for all participants.
The congregation urges members of the community who have participated in the dinner in some manner to consider contributing to other dinners being served or to local food pantries that will be providing for those in need at this time. ROLCC is grateful for the enthusiasm and community support this meal has received for 51 years.
Church cancels November, December breakfasts
The New Waverly United Methodist Church breakfasts for November and December 2020 dates have been canceled. The church hopes to be able to resume breakfasts at some time next year.
2021 state park passes on sale
The 2021 Indiana state park passes, lake permits, off-road cycling permits, and horse tags are now available at property offices and front gates, and online at ShopINstateparks.com.
Black Dog Coffee to host Houdini mystery event
On Saturday, Nov. 21, Black Dog Coffee and Legacy Outfitters will host a mystery party provided by Mayhem 4 Hire, a local Mystery Entertainment Company.
The event is called The Magic Hat Mystery and involves Harry Houdini.
Each attendant will be emailed his or her own character name (with bio) and party information before the event. Participants will be seated with their own party, so Mayhem 4 Hire will need to know the names of those wishing to sit together.
Check in 6:30-7 p.m. at Black Dog Coffee, 116 S. 6th St. in Logansport.
The evening will include the mystery, Vibrant Events Catering and table magic by Jim Turnpaugh, then will conclude around 8:45 with a grand prize.

Indiana rail plan survey
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is accepting public comments in an online survey to update the Indiana State Rail Plan.
The general public and rail stakeholders are encouraged to take the survey and share their opinions on today’s rail system in Indiana and what it could look like in the future.
The online survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/INSRP20) takes about 15 minutes to complete. A link to the survey can also be found on the INDOT website at www.in.gov/indot.
The state rail plan will guide INDOT’s efforts to:
• Maintain and improve the rail transportation system,
• Support the movement of freight and passengers in Indiana, and
• Strengthen the state’s economy and raise the quality of life for its citizens.
Federal law requires an update to the state’s rail plan every four years. The previous rail plan was released in 2017.

Deer Creek blood drive
The Deer Creek Community Center is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive from 2-6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23. The drive is just before Thanksgiving weekend, and donations can be critical for that time. Logansport Parks’ 4th annual Christmas in the Park
The fourth annual Christmas in the Park holiday display of lights at Spencer Park will open on Friday, Nov. 27, thanks to the Logansport Parks & Recreation Department, its foundation and many sponsoring organizations and businesses.
The display will end after New Year’s weekend, and the lights will be on daily from dusk to dawn.

Spencer Park’s High Street entrance will be closed to vehicle traffic from Nov. 2 until the lighting is removed after the holidays.
Daytime park users should park on the north side of High Street or near the lower pavilion.
Park visitors and daytime walkers should stay on the sidewalk and roadway and stay away from the decorations. They could pose a danger due to guy wires, as well as electrical wires.
For COVID-19 and other safety precautions:

To collect them all, participants must go to that designated business to pick up them up. Country Christmas Craft Show
The Twelve Mile Country Christmas Craft Show will be from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the new Twelve Mile Community Center, 7913 E. Indiana 16.
There’ll be artisan, craft and handmade items only for sale, as well as door prizes and food available.
All Saints to present holiday concert Dec. 6
All Saints Catholic Church will present “O Holy Night: The Christmas Story in Scripture and Song” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec.6. The concert will include scripture readings, musical performances, and prayer. The songs will include standards such as” What Child Is This,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “I Wonder as I Wander,” “Joy to the World” and “O Holy Night.” The program will be led by Father Kyle Neterer and performed by parishioners of All Saints.
Baptist Church to sell noodles
Logansport Baptist Church will resume its tradition of providing noodles in December.
On Monday, Dec. 7, a noodle class will be held at 4 p.m. at the church. Then, on Tuesday, Dec. 8, a pack and bag event will begin at 4 p.m. with the sale of noodles for $3.50. Noodles will be sold at the Heritage House on 11th Street and the Baptist Church at 7th and Broadway.
Free COVID-19 testing for Hoosiers
The Cass Heath Department offers free COVID-19 testing from 7:45 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Monday, Thursday and Friday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1616 Smith St., Logansport.
Testing will be available to all members of the public regardless of symptoms. Children as young as 2 years of age can be tested with parental consent.
Individuals should bring proof of Indiana residency, such as a state-issued ID, work ID or utility bill. Walk-ins will be welcome, but to avoid waiting in line, individuals can register for an appointment by visiting https://scheduling.coronavirus.in.gov/.
This testing is made possible through a grant from the Indiana Department of Health to ensure that community testing is available anywhere there is a need. Through this grant, all the testing supplies and equipment, including test kits, personal protective equipment (PPE), sanitizer and the platform for registration and data management, are provided. The grant continues through June 30, 2021, and is renewable.

Hospital asks people to wear masks
Logansport Memorial Hospital is asking people coming to the hospital campus to have their own face masks, especially with cold and flu season coming while COIVD-19 is still circulating.
The hospital has a limited supply of surgical masks left to be given to patients and the public if they are not wearing one of their own.
Cloth masks that were generously donated from the community at the beginning of the pandemic are still at the hospital and ready to be used when needed. At this time, LMH is not in need of cloth masks but is prepared to share them with patients and community members if the supply of surgical masks for the public runs out.
LMH staff is well-equipped with all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) at this time, and will continue being ready and able to care for you and your loved ones safely.
Cross-Wind UMC holds Grief Share meetings

VFW Auxiliary meetings
The Auxiliary to VFW Post #3790 meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month and generally last one hour.
The start of the 2020-2021 year will mark a year-long celebration of the formation of the “Ladies Auxiliary” in 1920. In 2006, the “Ladies Auxiliary” and the “Men’s Auxiliary” joined forces and are now known as the VFW Auxiliary. Male relatives of veterans may now join The VFW Auxiliary. Membership is $20 a year, and Life Memberships are available. The Auxiliary has lost over 300 members in the past 10 years.

Indiana 211 is adding additional resources for Hoosiers in need of assistance connecting with health and human services agencies in their local communities. Indiana 211 has created a new website to serve as a clearinghouse of information on COVID-19 resources. The organization is also adding 20-30 new navigators to handle increased call volume. Community Navigators help people to contact 211, identify their goals, prioritize their needs, and connect them to valuable community resources. Indiana 211 is a free service that connects Hoosiers with help and answers from thousands of health and human services agencies in their local communities — quickly, easily and confidentially. Visitors Bureau accepting grant applications
The Cass County Visitors Bureau (CCVB) will be awarding grants for out-of-county marketing and visitor experience enhancement, to events and attractions within Cass County. Grant requests will be considered and awarded by the Cass County Visitors Bureau Board of Directors. Multiple grants will be awarded from the $10,000 fund so that a variety of organizations can be assisted with their events or attractions. These grants are very competitive, so it is suggested that applications be made as early as possible.
Rules and regulations for funding requests and grant applications will be available in the CCVB office between 8 a.m. and noon Monday through Friday, or electronically by contacting Toni Savini at [email protected].
Grant applications will be accepted throughout 2020, but must be in the CCVB office by the 20th of the month for consideration at the following month’s regularly scheduled meeting.
Recipients of the 2019 grants were: Carousel in the Park Fun Day, Two Rivers on Two Wheels Bike Tour, the 2 Rivers Music Festival, the Panhandle Pathway Trail, Christmas in the Park, the Taste of Cass County and AIM Softball Fields.
Ivy Tech offering free classes, training
Ivy Tech Community College has announced it is offering free classes and training for 10,000 participants. The college is elevating its commitment to Hoosiers impacted by COVID-19 experiencing unemployment, reduced hours or furloughs across the state. Participants may take more than one class or training in a range of relevant high-demand areas.

Classes and training sessions that are currently being offered as part of the initiative include:
Advanced manufacturing: Industry 4.0 silver level multi-skill maintenance and operations.
Technician certifications (associate, electrical systems, electric motor control systems, motor control troubleshooting and pneumatic systems.
Tools of the Industry with Autodesk: Introduction to CAD, CAM, and practical CNC machining, Fusion 360 introduction to CAD and CAM, simulation analysis for mechanical engineers, 3-axis machining with Fusion 360, introduction to mechanical engineering design and manufacturing, and modeling and design for mechanical engineers.
Applications available for Logan’s Landing program
Applications for the Commercial Facade Improvement Funding Program are available to commercial business or property owners within the Logan’s Landing district, according to a release. Applicants have a full-year from the date of approval to complete the project, and the program offers 50 percent matching funding up to $5,000 per property for eligible improvements.
Those improvements include exterior painting, exterior lighting, windows and doors, facade maintenance and restoration, awnings and installation of brick facade.
