Six Flags 2021 opening dates for Great Adventure, Wild Safari, Hurricane Harbor

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Six Flags Great Adventure announced it will open the Jackson, N.J., theme park on Saturday, March 27.

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, which operates 26 theme parks and waterparks, said in a press release last week that it is preparing to welcome guests back for the 2021 season, as well as celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary.

“Our guests and team members are ready for the return of fun and signature Six Flags thrills in 2021,” said Senior Vice President of Park Operations Bonnie Weber.

“Last year, we set the standard for operating our parks safely, and entertained millions of guests in adherence to government, and CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] health guidelines at 21 of our 26 parks. We offered a local and outdoor entertainment venue spanning dozens to hundreds of acres where families and friends could safely spend time together,” she added, referring to reopening last year amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

And for the 2021 season, Six Flags Great Adventure will shatter three world records when it debuts its coaster of legendary proportions this summer — the tallest, fastest and longest single-rail coaster, the Jersey Devil Coaster.

The coaster will tower 13 stories and reach speeds up to 58 miles per hour as riders soar through the dark and foreboding woods along 3,000 feet of track. It’s inspired by infamous New Jersey folklore, and will feature five intense elements, including three dramatic inversions.

Last month, the coaster had its final track piece placed — which marked the completion of track construction on the highly-anticipated scream machine.

Iron workers from TCN & Co, the ride’s erection company based in Marlton, N.J., along with the ride’s manufacturer and Six Flags project supervisor, signed the final piece of orange steel before it ascended to its resting place atop the extreme, 87-degree, vertical drop.

Guests and team members will follow strict safety and health guidelines, including face masks, contactless temperature and security screenings, and enhanced cleaning and sanitization measures. The theme park will also closely monitor attendance through operating hours to maintain proper social distancing.

Additionally, the Six Flags Wild Safari Drive-Thru Adventure, the world’s largest drive-thru outside of Africa, will open Saturday, March 20, according to Six Flags. It will be a contact-free, self-guided animal experience in which guests can learn about 1,200 animals from around the globe by streaming a custom audio tour along their 4.5-mile journey.

Most animals are free roaming and can walk right up to the guests’ vehicle.

The 350-acre preserve will debut a plethora of baby animals as well, including bison calves, Asian water buffalo and kangaroo joeys.

And Six Flags Hurricane Harbor will open for the 2021 season on Saturday, May 15.

This tropically-themed oasis will offer cool refreshment for the entire family with more than 20 high-speed thrill slides, a half-mile lazy river, two massive pools and two interactive kids’ areas.

Due to the ongoing health crisis, the park will use an online reservation system to manage attendance, schedule guests for entry by day, and staggering arrival times to minimize proximity exposure. Six Flags will establish attendance caps well below the park’s capacity.

All members, season pass holders, and all guests with a single-day or group ticket will need to make a reservation at https://www.sixflags.com/reserve. Guests who need single-day tickets will be able to reserve during the purchase process.

Guests will enter their online order number, ticket number, or membership/season pass number, select the day and approximate time they want to visit, acknowledge their understanding of the company’s health policy, order pre-paid parking if needed, and watch a brief video describing new social distancing and sanitization procedures.

And if you need a job, you can apply to work at Six Flags.

The company is hosting a virtual and contact-free hiring process to search for 4,000 employees to fill positions at the park from March 2021 through Jan. 2, 2022.

Jobs will be available at the New Jersey Great Adventure theme park and Hurricane Harbor water park, as well as the attraction’s Wild Safari. The parks will offer positions in more than 10 diverse departments.

Candidates should apply online at www.sixflagsjobs.com.
