Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage on a Vintage Train Ride Through Texas

Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau

All aboard the Grapevine Vintage Railroad for a one-of-a-kind trip back in time.

Grapevine Vintage Railroad in Grapevine, Texas, is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment by hosting a weekend of “Women’s Suffrage Victory Train” excursions, giving passengers a unique way to learn about the women’s suffrage movement in the Lone Star State and beyond.

In honor of a century of women’s voting rights in America, Families are invited to hop aboard a 1920s Victorian coach, where characters dressed in period attire will share pamphlets and information about the suffragettes and their achievements. Guests are welcome to get in the spirit of the event and wear their own 1920s themed clothing.

On Saturday, September 12, one specialty train will make the full, five-hour journey across the Cotton Belt Route to the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards. Or, if you’d prefer something a little bit

I ‘walked’ Boston Dynamics’ robot dog around San Francisco

“What’s its name?”

“Can I take a photo?”

“What is that?”

The Boston Dynamics robot dog known as Spot stood out. Some people were fascinated. Others were annoyed and wary. Most, however, seemed excited to see the four-legged robot in person.

That’s what I noticed from more than 4,500 miles away from home in Lima, Peru, while remotely operating the quadruped as it scurried along a busy sidewalk in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood.

You’ve probably seen Spot in viral videos of it pulling a truck or opening a door. Boston Dynamics made the 65-pound robot available to the public for about $75,000 in June. Now San Francisco-based robotics management company Formant has one of its own.

10 ways Donald Trump Jr is even Trumpier than his father

Donald Trump Jr’s oratory at yesterday’s Republican convention was reminiscent of his father’s – AFP

For once, the Donald Trump making headlines isn’t the guy with weird hair who tweets in upper case from the White House toilet. Instead it’s the president’s eldest son and namesake, Donald Trump Jr.

The 42-year-old, known as “Don” and reportedly worth $150m, made waves on Monday with a rabble-rousing speech on the opening night of the Republican National Convention, pronouncing: “This election is church, work and school versus rioting, looting and vandalism.” Hmm. Quite the toss-up, huh?

Mini-Don is increasingly viewed as an, ahem, trump card in his father’s fight for re-election in November. Trump Jr isn’t just a prolific fundraiser for the party but his ultra-conservative stance plays well with Republican heartland voters. As Roger Stone, one of Trump Snr’s former confidants, put it: ”Basically, Trump Jr is the voice of undiluted Trumpism.”

‘Rude’ staycationers ignite local fury in Cornwall and Snowdonia

Holidaymakers have flocked to the south coast and the UK’s beauty spots this summer as travel restrictions deter many from overseas trips – but not all ‘staycations’ have been trouble-free.

Locals in Cornwall and Snowdonia have variously reported visitors behaving poorly towards hospitality workers, littering and camping without permission.

In Cornwall, holiday park receptionist Beth Richards wrote an open letter to rude customers after she was called “stupid and “idiotic” for asking them to wear a mask in the park shop.

Ms Richards told the BBC: “[People] sort of think as you as a service, rather than a person, which can be really frustrating.”

She added that new cleaning procedures in place due to Covid, which meant later check-in times at the holiday park, had led to complaints, one of which had brought her to tears.

Malcolm Bell, of Visit Cornwall, told Telegraph Travel: “We

Pompeo, First Lady headline Day 2 of Republican convention

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and First Lady Melania Trump address the Republican convention on Tuesday after a first night that featured depictions of a United States under a Joe Biden presidency that veered between the apocalyptic and the hyperbolic.

Republicans had pledged to provide an uplifting convention to celebrate Donald Trump’s nomination for four more years in the White House but the mood at the outset was mostly somber.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, 51, a former Fox News host and the girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr, described the coming election as a “battle for the soul of America” — echoing a phrase former vice president Biden has used throughout his campaign.

“They want to destroy this country and everything we have fought for and hold dear,” Guilfoyle said. “They want to steal your liberty, your freedom.”

Don Jr framed the November election between his 74-year-old father and “radical left” Biden,

Should You Take an Unpaid Internship?

(Bloomberg Opinion) — Ten years ago, I packed my dorm room, put my few worldly possessions in the back of my car and drove six states south to be an unpaid journalism intern for the summer. I’d saved up my pay working as a resident assistant during the school year, stocked up on Costco-sized jars of peanut butter and shelled out about $1,500 for two months of rent in Atlanta. I was ready to live a spartan existence for the opportunity to work for a prominent news organization.

A month before I started, an article questioning the legality of unpaid internships pushed the conversation into the zeitgeist. On the first day, as all the interns were gathered in a conference room, an important-looking executive told us all that we would be the first-ever class of paid interns. Change could happen fast, it seemed.

A full decade later, unpaid internships remain

Switzerland ‘certain’ to lose travel corridor, Greece holidays are safe for now

Switzerland is ‘certain’ to be removed from the UK’s travel corridors list this Thursday, according to a travel industry insider.

Paul Charles of the PC Agency and head of the Quash Quarantine movement Tweeted: “Switzerland certain to be added to quarantine list. Czech Republic possibly. Absolutely no justification for adding Greece, Turkey or Italy to the list in this Thursday’s review.”

This comes after Switzerland’s cases per 100,000 over seven days hit 21.7 – above the UK’s threshold of 20 cases, after which a quarantine comes under consideration.

When Croatia, Austria and Trinidad and Tobago surpassed the 20 threshold last week, they were all added to the UK’s quarantine list and the FCO now advises against all but essential travel to the countries. Spain and France have also lost their travel corridors, meaning all arrivals in the UK

Community Invited To Keep Alpharetta’s Scarecrow Tradition Alive

ALPHARETTA, GA — Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Scarecrow Harvest Festival, held last year in Brooke Street Park, has been canceled. Each fall, residents and visitors of Alpharetta look forward to seeing the downtown streets decorated with scarecrows made by local schools, businesses and organizations. This sight brings a smile to many, and this year the city is calling on the community to help keep this tradition alive during COVID-19.

Because schools and teachers have their hands full this year, families, neighborhoods, non-profits, faith-based organizations, local businesses, local sports teams and athletic clubs are invited to join in the fun by creating a scarecrow for display on the streets of downtown Alpharetta.

“The scarecrows make it officially feel like fall in Alpharetta,” said Morgan Rodgers, City of Alpharetta Recreation, Parks & Cultural Services Director. “Our community looks forward to this every year, and we know it can be done safely
