Agouran Of The Hour: Faith Lewis

Faith Lewis grew up in Agoura Hills and is currently about to enter Yale Law School, where she will focus on environmental law and environmental justice.

What was it like growing up in Agoura Hills?

I was actually born in New York, and then we moved to California. My experience started in elementary school – I went to Yerba Buena. I had a good time there. I was there from 1stto 4thgrade. I remember doing Girl Scouts – it was a lovely time. After California after fourth grade I moved to Australia, and I was there for six years, and I returned to Agoura Hills for tenth grade, and then I moved again to England, and I finished 11thand 12thgrade, but yeah it was lovely. I benefitted from an environment that told me and showed me that I could do or be anything and anyone that I wanted to be.

Hoboken Issues Survey On Proposed $250 Fine For Mask Violations

HOBOKEN, NJ — On Monday, the city of Hoboken emailed residents to ask them to participate in a survey about a proposed ordinance before the City Council on Wednesday that “includes a potential $250 fine for individuals who do not wear face masks in outdoor situations where social distancing is not possible, such as crowded locations in public places.”

The city, located across the Hudson River from Manhattan, packs 53,000 people into one-square mile. There are also 140 liquor licenses potentially in use at any one time, and dozens of restaurants providing outdoor dining.

The survey email said, “Residents and visitors would not be subject to a fine where social distancing can be maintained, such as sitting in a park with family and socially distanced at least six feet from others, participating in a socially distanced workout in a city field while maintaining six feet of distance from others, and

Trump to campaign in battleground states as Democrats embrace Joe Biden, Kamala Harris at convention

WASHINGTON – As Joe Biden and the Democrats convene virtually this week, President Donald Trump plans to get in some words edgewise.

Trump will campaign in four battleground states – Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona and Pennsylvania – as Democratic delegates meet online to nominate Biden and running mate Sen. Kamala Harris during the Democratic National Convention, which starts Monday.

The itinerary includes a stop near the city where Biden was born – Scranton, Pennsylvania – on Thursday, just hours before the former vice president is scheduled to deliver his nomination acceptance speech.

Trump “will deliver remarks on a half century of Joe Biden failing America,” the campaign said in announcing the stop at a building products business in Old Forge, less than 10 miles from Scranton.

‘There’s nothing fancy about The Bath Arms, and that’s what makes it the ideal antidote to lockdown’

bath arms - Jake Eastham
bath arms – Jake Eastham

I’ve slept in this bed before. Only 13 years ago I didn’t have to take a run and jump at it three times before successfully landing on top of it. The intervening years have done my agility no favours.

Once cosily under the duvet, however, it was worth the effort. A very high and very splendid carved Indian four-poster with a fan-shaped headboard and soaring, flaming torch-shaped pillars at each corner, it adds a touch of grandeur to an otherwise simple, uncluttered bedroom with pretty, shell pink walls, soft grey roman blinds and, in the morning, light streaming through windows on two sides. There are elegant wall lights, a couple of fringed velvet armchairs, an abstract painting above the bed that could easily pass for a Poliakoff, an antique long mirror and, in the gorgeous white-panelled bathroom with a free-standing tub, a marble-tiled floor and

Italy sees drop in coronavirus cases and tests

ROME — Italy’s day-to-day new case numbers dropped for a second straight day, but so did the number of swab tests performed to detect coronavirus infections.

According to Health Ministry figures on Monday, 320 coronavirus cases were registered since the previous day, and 30,666 swab tests were carried out at the end of Italy’s big summer holiday weekend. Two days earlier, when Italy registered 629 case —the first time the daily caseload had topped 600 since May— there were more than 53,000 swab tests performed.

From the start of August, the number of hospitalized patients has climbed from just over 700 to 810 on Monday. Still, the situation is dramatically different than in the first weeks of the pandemic, when thousands of people in Italy were being hospitalized daily with COVID-19.

Infectious diseases experts fear that Italy’s caseload will tick upward again as many holiday-goers return from vacations abroad, including

Here’s Why We’re Not Like Grocery Workers

SUMMIT, NJ — Following the Summit school district’s release of a final reopening plan and health/safety plan two weeks ago, the local teachers union — like some other unions around the state — has issued a new letter citing health and safety concerns about reopening schools.

Summit schools were originally set to reopen to students Aug. 31 but will now reopen Sept. 1.

Right now, all New Jersey districts must offer a remote plan for students returning to school. In addition, many — including Summit — have also offered a blended or hybrid plan in which students are in the buildings for single-session days (without lunch) and home at other times.

Summit’s plan allows children to be in the building five days a week rather than alternating days, like some nearby districts. Acting Superintendent Robert Gardella explained in July why he thought that was better for health and sanitation.

Greece and Croatia at risk as travel map shrinks

Cases in Croatia are on the rise - Getty

Holidays in Greece and Croatia are at risk, as Covid-19 cases in the popular holiday destinations continue to rise.

The number of cases in Greece is now the highest since the beginning of the pandemic. Yesterday, there were 216 cases, up from the previous high of 156 on April 21.

It is a similarly worrying picture in Croatia, which recorded its all-time high number of cases on Friday – 208.

Both countries are now teetering towards the alleged ‘threshold’ of cases per 100,000 which could see the FCO advise against travel and introduce quarantine measures.

On Saturday Grant Shapps revealed that anything above 20 cases per 100,000 for a period of seven days or more will likely lead to a country being added to the quarantine list.

Greece is now at 13.8 cases per 100,000 over seven days, and Croatia is
