The week begins with a total solar eclipse in Sagittarius at 23°08′ on Monday, December 14th, at 11:16 a.m., E.T. As 2020 wraps up—a year that will forever be remembered for its manifold hardships and widespread reckoning with injustices—let the intensity of this eclipse help you forge a more profound commitment to your values.
This total solar eclipse, in the sign of the truth-seeking archer, is a new moon conjoining the moon’s south node, meaning it has a different flavor than a typical new moon. The south node asks us to release the old and make way for the new. While, yes, this is a potent time to set intentions, it’s also essential to think about what you are releasing, clearing, bringing to closure, and ending as you do.
This is a potent time to set intentions, it’s also essential to think about what you are releasing, clearing, bringing to closure, and ending as you do.
Even more important is to allow the truth to emerge, as this solar eclipse in Sagittarius may bring up things from the past that were hidden in the shadows. We can expect issues relating to the philosophy that guides our lives, choices, and ideals to come front and center. Look at the beliefs and ideologies you’ve outgrown over the last 12 months, and commit to your emerging values.
As Mars, the planet of action, trines this new moon, and the sun and moon conjunct Mercury, you’ll likely feel activated. Meanwhile, Venus in Scorpio sextiles Jupiter and Saturn, helping you to animate your values. Jupiter rules Sagittarius, and his prominent position at 28° of Capricorn in a lush and harmonious angle to Venus allows you to hone your vision for the future.
On the challenging side of things, Neptune, who recently stationed direct, continues to square the nodes of fate, making an evolutionary push towards integrating the spiritual maturation gained over the last few months. Neptune also squares Mercury, which can contribute to confusion. If you feel confused, pause. The potency of opportunity this solar eclipse opens is not fleeting. So, take your time as you move through it. Stay mindful.
With this particular solar eclipse, it’s also key to note that Sagittarius corresponds with personal beliefs, ideology, adventure, and the pursuit of freedom. It also beckons a commitment to a vision for the future. The idea of a “vision for the future” becomes even more prominent as the week goes on: Both Jupiter and Saturn, the social consciousness planets, make significant moves, leaving Capricorn and entering into Aquarius. Aquarius closely relates to visions for the future, collective health, evolution, and progressive ideals.
Saturn, who has been primarily in Capricorn since December of 2017, wraps up his stay in the sign of stalwart discipline heading into the sign of the water bearer on December 16th. Then, Jupiter follows him on December 19th. Jupiter moved into Capricorn late last year and spends one year in each sign, while Saturn stays approximately two and a half to three years in each sign, depending on his retrogrades.
Jupiter and Saturn, both leaving Capricorn and entering into Aquarius at the same time, is massive. Next week on the solstice, they conjoin at 0° of Aquarius—the start of a new 20-year cycle. (Jupiter and Saturn conjoin one another every 20 years, and their conjunction, a Great Conjunction, represents a new emergence of societal trends.) However, they are wrapping up more than just a 20-year cycle right now. This conjunction heralds another significant turning point, known as a Grand Mutation, the end of a near 200-year long-winded cycle, ruled by Earth, and commencing a new cycle in air.
This transition of the element they meet in shifting from Earth to air may not sound like a big deal, but it is. This marquee event is a much-awaited and highly anticipated astrological moment that indicates a shift from pragmatic and materialistic earth related values, into a new season of life governed by contribution, creativity, and the pursuit of collective well-being. (Hello, Aquarius.)
I’ll have more to say on this next week, but for now, embrace the eclipse and consider this: What’s your vision for your future?
