Discover Australia’s most immersive attractions

Escape the everyday on an extraordinary, immersive journey through Australia’s vibrant landscapes

Surround yourself in a blanket of birdsong in the Top End’s wetlands. Soar above surfing dolphins in Western Australia’s crashing waves. Walk alongside a furry wombat as it crunches through thick snow in Mount Kosciuszko, and marvel at the brilliance of the outback’s blistering sunsets.

Some of Australia’s most amazing sights and sounds are closer than you think. While travelling to Oz might not be possible at the moment, you can now get there virtually to experience some of its most dazzling and colourful landscapes.

Tourism Australia, the country’s national tourist board, has launched a series of evocative videos that immerse the viewer in the unique sights, sounds and textures of this unique country. By combining stunning visuals with immersive 8D sound technology, the films truly whisk the viewer to Australia. Wearing headphones is the best way to get the full sensory experience, so the music and sound effects appear to come from all around.

There are six 8D videos in the series, each themed by a colour that represents a different natural or man-made landscape and the emotions it evokes. Blue is all about the joy of water; red represents an adventurous escape; magenta seduces with the romance of freedom; green soothes with the relaxation of nature; black sparks a moment of creative inspiration and white exudes minimalism and calm.

So, plug in your earphones and escape Down Under. Perhaps you’ll take a deep dive into Australia’s bewitching seascapes by watching the Blue video. It takes viewers from the sparkling turquoise waters of Western Australia’s Esperance region, where dolphins surf in the roaring waves, to the brilliant blue skies of Queensland on a skydive over the Great Barrier Reef, before plunging beneath to explore the reef’s kaleidoscope of colours. Further south, the deep blue depths of Hervey Bay are filled with the haunting sounds of the mighty humpback whales that migrate along the east coast, while South Australia’s Baird Bay sees frisky sea lions at play.

The scorched ochre earth of the Red Centre is the colour most people associate with Australia. The Red video takes viewers on a dazzling journey into this profoundly spiritual and beautiful landscape, swooping past the ancient red form of Uluru and on to witness some of the age-old customs of its traditional landowners. Next the viewer finds themselves whizzing through north Western Australia by speedboat, past the jagged red-hued rocks of the Kimberley region’s astonishing Horizontal Falls. It ends with a fiery sunset streaking across the wide-open sky.

The thought-provoking Black video takes the viewer on a journey to some of Australia’s striking natural and man-made wonders. You’ll veer from stargazing in the dark night skies of Tasmania’s wilderness and watching black-and-white little penguins waddle in Victoria’s Phillip Island, to plunging into the dark depths of Kakadu National Park’s thundering falls. It finishes with a contemplative walk past some intriguing indigenous art and towering black sculptures in one of creative hub Melbourne’s sophisticated galleries.

Whatever mood you’re in, one of Tourism Australia’s new videos will offer you a moment of escape as you head off on a unique 8D adventure to Australia.
