Tree House Brewing Co. turned heads Thursday amidst a presidential election with the announcement of a new waterfront taproom on Cape Cod. Just a day later they’re sharing more big news.
The award-winning brewery announced Friday it has plans to open a Western Massachusetts taproom next year as well.
The taproom will open in Deerfield, Mass., on 50 wooded acres in the shadow of Mount Sugarloaf State Reservation, Tree House announced online.
“In addition to the expansive outdoor space, the indoor atrium, complete with a sea of live plants in a flood of natural light, is a stunningly gorgeous piece of architecture,” the brewery writes. “The property is situated in a region that contains the most popular outdoor recreation sites in the state. Many of you reading are likely familiar with this building already; for those of you who are not, we cannot wait for you to see it along with the property – you are going to love it.”
The new facility is sized at 100,000 square feet and will offer 300 parking spots for customers.
Similarly to the Cape Cod facility, Tree House says it is opening a Western Mass. facility to offer more access and dedicated space to experience their beer — a hard feat in the face of growing demand for the beer at its Charlton facility, where lines for pours and cans can often stretch to the street and take hours to work through.
“This year we’ve reflected deeply upon the experience in Charlton and realized that many of the limitations currently in place are a function of over-demand and under-supply; not for beer, but for the communal experience it provides,” the brewery stated. “Listening intently to your feedback, we wish for nothing more than to bring you the most delightful and memorable experience possible – a place for friends, family, and kindred spirits to leave the world behind for a bit over the celebratory pint with no frills. We have not been perfect and in spite of our most earnest efforts to overcome our shortcomings with continued reinvestment we had to admit to ourselves that Charlton is not enough. Tree House Western Mass is a major effort to remedy to this problem, relieving pressure on our main campus while bringing the Tree House experience closer to you.”
The brewery envisions the Western Mass. facility being utilized as an event destination, meanwhile offering can sales and a peaceful taproom experience at another location — something the brewery says has been difficult to manage simultaneously at its Charlton location.
Located just one minute off of Interstate 91, Tree House says the new facility is ideally situated near outdoor activities including rafting or fly fishing on the Deerfield River, hiking at Mount Toby and Mount Sugarloaf State Reservation, cycling the flats of Route 5 and the hills of the Mohawk Trail, mountain biking at Thunder Mountain bike park and skiing at Berkshire East.
Tree House plans to open the Deerfield location by mid- to late-winter of 2021 for can sales and, pending the status of the coronavirus pandemic, open fully next summer.
On Thursday, Tree House announced plans to open a two-level waterfront taproom in Sandwich, which will overlook the bay and sit minutes from the town’s famous boardwalk. That taproom is expected to be fully open by summer of 2021 with resident food trucks and cans to go.
The brewing company has grown a cult following over the years after opening in Brimfield in 2011 before moving to Monson and operating at Koran Farm. In 2017, the brewery moved its operation to a 55,000 square foot brewery in Charlton and has continued to grow without pause.
In 2018, the brewery added a 16,000-square-foot expansion to its retail shop and brewery, several new outdoor spaces and an on-site trail system. A year later, Tree House purchased a working farm in Connecticut with over 60 acres to operate the Tree House Orchard & Farm Fermentory.
Due to overwhelming demand for the beer, the brewery was approved a redesign of a portion of Route 20 to help alleviate traffic problems.
In addition to beer, the brewery began roasting its own coffee in 2019 and partnered with Worcester’s Crust Artisan Bakeshop to offer pastry and bakery items in its retail shop.
Tree House Brewing Company, was named the fourth best brewery in the world by RateBeer.com in February.
