The first floor of Terrebonne’s Government Tower will open Monday for the first time since closing nearly a year ago due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Now that the COVID-19 pandemic is beginning to level out, I want to make sure that my staff does everything possible to make all business transactions with the citizens of our great parish as easy and convenient as possible,” Parish President Gordy Dove said in a news release.
Residents who visit will need to wear face masks, stay six feet away from others and use hand sanitizers, requirements that remain in place under the state’s COVID-19 measures.
The entrances on Barrow Street and on Gabasse Street will be open. The one on Main Street will remain closed.
Residents can still use the drive-through windows on the first floor of the tower’s parking lot on Gabasse Street to pick up registration forms for all TPR sports programs or to pay the following:
— City of Houma utility bills.
— Parish government employee retirement Insurance.
— Solid waste disposal fees.
— New gas service installation fees.
— Culvert payments.
Starting Monday, those transactions may also be handled in person at the customer service utility billing teller stations on the Government Tower’s first floor. Officials say that is where these transactions should be handled, as they involve more personal attention and time:
— All new utility service requests or transfers (valid picture ID required), as well as paying delinquent fees after service has been disconnected.
— Liquor license applications and renewals.
— Registrations and renewals for electricians, plumbers and mechanical contractors.
— Applying for solicitation permits.
The Terrebonne Recreation Department will have its own teller station on the first floor to hand out coaches’ badges and sports registration forms. The station will also accept return of all filled-out forms and copies of birth certificates needed and accept payments for all sports entry fees.
Parish permitting department clerks will return to full service for walk-up forms and payments in the lobby. Online permits are still available and encouraged; visit mypermitnow.org.
Anyone needing the services of the Veterans Affairs Office should call 857-3626 for an appointment.
Persons wishing to do business with the Assessor’s, Sales Tax or Louisiana Workmen’s Compensation offices should call ahead for an appointment.
