Trump to campaign in battleground states as Democrats embrace Joe Biden, Kamala Harris at convention

WASHINGTON – As Joe Biden and the Democrats convene virtually this week, President Donald Trump plans to get in some words edgewise.

Trump will campaign in four battleground states – Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona and Pennsylvania – as Democratic delegates meet online to nominate Biden and running mate Sen. Kamala Harris during the Democratic National Convention, which starts Monday.

The itinerary includes a stop near the city where Biden was born – Scranton, Pennsylvania – on Thursday, just hours before the former vice president is scheduled to deliver his nomination acceptance speech.

Trump “will deliver remarks on a half century of Joe Biden failing America,” the campaign said in announcing the stop at a building products business in Old Forge, less than 10 miles from Scranton.

How Kamala Harris got the call, and will the Legislature extend eviction limits?

Plus: School looks different depending on which county you’re in. Voting at Dodger Stadium? And crowds are flooding into parks.

Greetings from Palm Springs, where we’re about to be engulfed by a brutal heat wave! I’m Rebecca Plevin, The Desert Sun’s immigration reporter and its most dedicated ice cream-eater.

But first: It’s fire season, and several big ones are burning. Evacuations were ordered in parts of northern L.A. County as Lake Fire grew to 10,500 acres near Lake Hughes, in Angeles National Forest north of the Santa Clarita Valley. To the east, officials issued mandatory evacuation orders Thursday as the Ranch Fire threatened Azusa’s Mountain Cove community. But in some good news, the containment of the 33,424 Apple Fire burning in the San Bernardino National Forest has grown to 80%.

Inside the grueling VP search that led Joe Biden to Kamala Harris

WASHINGTON — Joe Biden sat in front of a laptop computer at his home office in Wilmington, Del. It was around 2:45 p.m Tuesday, and after a months-long search, he was about to reveal one of his biggest campaign decisions to the woman who would make history.

Earlier in the day, Biden called all the women who were finalists in his search for a vice presidential running mate, including Sen. Tammy Duckworth and Rep. Val Demings. He talked about his decision and ultimately informed them he had chosen someone else.

On the former vice president’s desk was a framed photo of the classic cartoon, “Hagar the Horrible.” In one frame, Hagar, a disheveled Viking, says,” Why me?!” In the next, the gods above reply, “Why not?”

The tenuous and drama-filled process that left politicos and voters alike on the edge of their seats was over. He’d made his decision.

WILMINGTON, DE — Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden selected Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) on Tuesday to be his running mate, a historically unprecedented choice that promotes a Black woman and former rival to the Democratic Party’s presidential ticket.

Biden announced he chose Harris, a 55-year-old freshman senator from California and the state’s former Attorney General, in a text message to supporters shortly after 4pm on Tuesday.

“Joe Biden here. Big news: I’ve chosen Kamala Harris as my running mate,” the text said. “Together, with you, we’re going to beat Trump.”

In a Facebook post, Biden extolled Harris as “smart, tough, and ready to lead” and applauded her work in the Senate to “hold the Trump administration accountable for its corruption, stand up to a Justice Department that’s run amok, and be a powerful voice against their extreme nominations.”

“She’s been a leader on criminal justice and marriage equality. And

From Good Housekeeping

With the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic, parents’ summer plans — which are often locked into place way back in January — have been thrown for a loop. Depending on where you live and how bad the outbreak is, traditional camps may not be an option this year. So, what is everyone going to do with their kids this whole summer?

Virtual summer camp is a tantalizing proposition. On the one hand, it offers parents a chance to have someone else take over childcare duties for a minute, opening up an opportunity to get work done, do chores, or, heck, even take a shower. On the other, after two months of remote and home-schooling, kids may be over the whole e-learning thing entirely, and virtual summer camp can’t replace the outdoor experiences that make regular summer camp a beloved childhood tradition. And no one

Harris Faulkner Gets a Bigger Spotlight at Fox News Channel

Click here to read the full article.

Meghan McCain says one of the biggest lessons in her TV career came when she was working alongside Harris Faulkner in the run up to the 2016 election at Fox News Channel.

A viewer had slipped into her direct messages on Twitter with an unpleasant remark, and McCain, who says she is prone to react to such things, learned a different strategy from Faulkner, with whom she appeared regularly on the  Fox News early-afternoon program “Outnumbered.”  The advice? “You’ve got to give people like that honey,” she recalls. If you’re going to respond, give that person something other than what they served you.

More from Variety

“I’m very impulsive,” acknowledges McCain, who speaks out regularly on the current panel at ABC’s “The View.” Faulkner, however, “is very cool under pressure,” she says. “She’s still water.”

Harris Faulkner will have reason to maintain her
