Sparta Recreation Department Presents Holiday Celebrations

SPARTA, NJ-  With all the challenges facing the community this year, the Sparta Recreation Department has announced a number of holiday activities.  Some are new, some are tradition and some have been recreated.

On Thursday afternoon, the township will light a menorah on the grounds in front of the Sparta VFW on Main Street.  Because of the limits to the number of people who can gather, the Recreation Department will present photos and a video of the virtual ceremony on their website Friday morning.

The lights on town hall will be turned to blue and white for the eight days of Hanukkah.

On Saturday, December 12 and  Sunday, December 13 Santa will be touring Sparta on a firetruck from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  In years past Santa would get a short tour from the Sparta Fire Department on his way to meet with families for photos and holiday activities.

Santa will not be getting off the truck but will wave and greet residents. This year, with the other festivities canceled due to the health crisis, Santa has shared his route through town:

Children can mail a letter to Santa. They can send their letters to Sparta Recreation Department, 65 Main Street in Sparta, by December 18.  The elves there will make sure Santa gets their notes.  He will even write a letter back to them.

Families can also register for a phone call from Santa, through December 18.
