Remember when gas cost less than a quarter? This birthday wish is for you | Columns

Here is hoping everyone had a nice Easter. Mine was nice; I finally got to see some family members after a year of staying home because of this pandemic. I’m sill being cautious, not taking any chances, although I have had my second vaccine.

Last week, I opened my cupboard to retrieve a coffee mug. How in the world do they multiply? “I have to get rid of some of them,” I thought, but later that day, I received three more coffee mugs for my birthday. Though I must admit, they were the perfect gifts!

If you are interested in my age, the cost of a new car was $1,650, while the average yearly wages were $4,000. Gas was 20 cents a gallon. Yikes, I cannot think about those amounts anymore. Now I feel ancient.

Have a great week and make a memory.

Candy’s Place event

Candy’s Place, a cancer and wellness resource center, will hold its annual fundraiser walk virtually this year. The virtual walk, called “VirtuALL,” is open for participation the entire month of May. Any activity is valid as long as there is movement, including walking, hiking, kayaking, skating, running, swimming, and gaming.

The walk is usually two miles, so participants are asked that the length of their chosen activity equal or exceed the two-mile mark. Selfies or video of activities can be shared online. Tag it #CandysVirtuALL. VirtuALL will be held May 1-31. Registration is $25 per person. Registration includes a branded mask and event bib that can be obtained after registration and worn on the day of the activity. Contact Candy’s Place at 190 Welles St., Suite 166, Forty Fort, PA 18704. Call 570-714-8800 or fax 570-714-4160 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
