PS5 Games to Play at Launch and Beyond

With the PlayStation 5 India release date of February 2, 2021, a lot of you are probably looking forward to playing some games on your new console. So we decided that actually explaining what you can expect from games on the PS5 along with their prices would be helpful. Without further ado, let’s get to the games.

First-party PS5 games

Here are Sony’s first-party games made especially for the PS5.

Astro’s Playroom – free

While it looks like a tech demo, Astro’s Playroom is actually a full-fledged game designed from the ground up to take advantage of the PS5’s hardware and DualSense features. Astro’s Playroom is a third-person platformer, and is pre-installed on every PS5.

Demon’s Souls – Rs. 4,999

Demon’s Souls is a ground-up remake of From Software’s seminal PS3 game made by Bluepoint. While it doesn’t take advantage of ray tracing or more advanced DualSense features, it still looks beautiful and is quite possibly the best-looking game on the PS5 right now.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure – Rs. 3,999

Primarily aimed towards a younger audience, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a 3D platformer. It features the mascot from LittleBigPlanet, but to separate itself from its predecessors, Sackboy: A Big Adventure will not feature player-created content. It also has a focus on local and online co-op gameplay.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales – Rs. 3,999

A follow-up to 2018’s excellent Marvel’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales tells the story of the titular protagonist. Miles Morales features quite a few uses of the PS5’s new features, including lightning fast load times, and in a recent update, ray traced lighting.

Third-party PS5 games

Here are the third-party games you can expect to play on your PS5.

Deathloop – Rs. 4,499 (May 21, 2021)

Arkane’s upcoming game, Deathloop, features unique time looping mechanics. The central aim of the game is simple: two rival assassins are looking for a way out of the time loop they’re stuck in. One assassin has to assassinate eight targets before the loop resets, while the other assassin is trying to kill the first one. It will feature Arkane’s take on immersive-sim game design, as well as multiplayer.

Resident Evil Village – TBA

The next game in the Resident Evil franchise is set to pick things up where Resident Evil 7: Biohazard left off. Using the RE Engine, Capcom promises next-generation ultra-realistic graphics for Resident Evil Village. The protagonist will once again be Ethan Winters, whose peaceful life after the events of RE7 are disrupted by the arrival of Chris Redfield.

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition – Rs. 2,799

Sure, it’s still Devil May Cry 5, which came out in 2019, but the Special Edition also comes with a few extra goodies, including Vergil as a playable character, a turbo mode that ups the game’s speed by 1.2 times, Legendary Dark Knight difficulty mode, and ray tracing.

Back 4 Blood – Rs. 3,999 (June 22, 2021)

Back 4 Blood hopes to be a spiritual successor to the seminal co-op zombie shooter Left 4 Dead. Featuring 4-player co-op, Back 4 Blood puts players up against hordes of monsters and Ridden. It also features a PvP mode where a team of four players take on the roles of special Ridden with their own abilities.

PS4 games with PS5 upgrades at launch

It’s not just new games on the PS5. Plenty of PS4 games have either already gotten a free upgrade to the PS5 version, or will be getting their upgrades soon. Here they are.

Control: Ultimate Edition – Rs. 3,330

The only way to get Control on a PS5 is to pick up the Ultimate Edition. The plus side of this arrangement is that the Ultimate Edition also includes both of Control’s major DLC releases.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate – Rs. 2,999

The goriest fighting game out there is getting a next-gen upgrade in the form of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. Alongside all the DLC releases, the Ultimate release of Mortal Kombat 11 also features PS5 features including enhanced visuals, reduced load times, cross-platform and cross-generation multiplayer, and the ability to run at 4K dynamic resolutions.

Balan Wonderworld – Rs. 2,999

Balan Wonderworld is a platforming game where a change in costumes means a whole new set of moves to use. The PS5 release of Balan Wonderworld will have the ability to run at 4K at 60 frames per second. It will also use DualSense features like resistive triggers and the new haptic rumble.

Watch Dogs Legion – Rs. 3,999

Possibly Ubisoft’s most ambitious open world game out right now, Watch Dogs Legion features unique gameplay where just about anybody can be the protagonist. The PS5 version of Watch Dogs Legion generally looks better and runs at better frame rates. It also uses the PS5’s SSD for lower load times.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – Rs. 3,999

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla follows the same gameplay style as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The setting takes us to Britain in the past as Viking warrior Eivor. Valhalla’s PS5 release features enhanced visuals, better frame rates, and shorter loading times.

Destiny 2 – Free-to-play

The PS5 version of Bungie’s incredibly popular looter shooter features all of the game’s content since its Beyond Light expansion release. It features cross-generation multiplayer, faster load times courtesy of the PS5’s SSD, a slider to adjust field of view, 4K resolution at 60 fps for regular gameplay, and support for up to 120 fps for the PvP Crucible mode.

Borderlands 3 – Rs. 3,999

Gearbox’s popular looter shooter is getting a next-gen upgrade. Along with its trademark sense of humour, art style, and absurd amounts of guns, Borderlands 3 on the PS5 will feature enhanced visuals, improved frame rates and quicker load times.

Doom Eternal – Rs. 3,999

Sadly, id Software has been rather stingy with details about Doom Eternal’s PS5 upgrade. We can assume that the PS5 version will feature better visuals and frame rates, but sadly, Doom Eternal’s PS5 version doesn’t even have a release date yet.

For Honor – Rs. 1,499

For Honor, the multiplayer hack-and-slash game centered around the age old question of Knights vs. Samurai vs. Vikings, features a stable frame rate of 60 frames per second on the PS5. The update with the enhancement also introduced a new playable hero and UI refinements.

Rainbow Six Siege – Rs. 1,999

Alongside its trademark tactical multiplayer gameplay, Rainbow Six Siege on the PS5 also features options for how players want to play the game. Players can pick either Performance Mode so that the game targets 120 fps with 4K dynamic resolution scaling, Resolution Mode which runs at 60 fps and 4K resolution. It also supports PS5’s new Activities, allowing for matchmaking into Ranked, Unranked, Newcomer, Quick Match and Events directly.

Hitman 3 – Rs. 3,999

While Hitman 3 features a free upgrade from the PS4 version to the PS5 version, IO Interactive hasn’t detailed what enhancements we can expect in the game running on newer hardware. We can, of course, assume that resolutions and frame rates will be better, alongside lower load times.

Metro Exodus – Rs. 2,499

The PS5 version of Metro Exodus, the third game in the Metro series of horror first-person shooters, will feature better frame rates and increased resolution, along with ray tracing. Sadly, 4A Games hasn’t announced a release date for the PS5 upgrade.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon – Rs. 3,499

The up side for Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s PS5 upgrade is that it’s free. The down side is that save files can’t be transferred between the two versions. The PS5 upgrade is set to release on March 2, and will feature better performance and resolution.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Rs. 3,999

Sure, CD Projekt Red has plenty of work to do on Cyberpunk 2077 before it’s in a playable state on consoles, but the studio has announced that there will be a free upgrade to the PS5 version some time down the line.

Outriders – Rs. 3,999 (April 1, 2021)

Upcoming co-op shooter Outriders will be getting a free cross-generation upgrade. Outriders will support full cross-platform multiplayer, but developer People Can Fly hasn’t revealed the exact details about what the PS5 version will add to the game in terms of new features.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War – Rs. 4,750

Only available through the cross-gen bundle, the PS5 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will have all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a PS5 game at launch, including improved resolution and frame rate, lower loading times, and ray tracing. Most importantly, the PS5 version will also have support for 120Hz displays, meaning that it can make full use of 120 frames per second if you have the screen for it. On the DualSense controller, Black Ops Cold War also uses the adaptive triggers for added immersion.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – Rs. 3,499

In a free update, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order now makes better use of the PS5’s new hardware. This, of course, includes improved resolutions and post-processing, and a rock solid frame rate of 60fps.
