Pine, Richland set schedule for Christmas tree pickup
The garland on the tree might still be gleaming but the pine needles on the floor are a sure sign that it is time to unload the Christmas tree.
Here is the schedule for tree recycling in local communities.
• Pine: Vogel Disposal will pick up natural Christmas trees trhough Jan. 16. Trees may be left out after the scheduled dates, but will require a $5 trash tag. The tags are available from Vogel by calling 724-625-1511.
• Richland: Residents can place trees out for collection by Vogel Disposal on their regular trash collection days throughout January at no extra cost.
Trees cannot be in bags and all decorations must be removed. They also should be cut so the branch spread is no greater than 6 feet across and length of the tree is 6 feet or less. Trees also cannot weigh more than 30 pounds.

• Residents also can discard trees at the parking lot of North Park Swimming Pool and Hartwood Acres as part of Allegheny County tree collection program, which runs through Jan. 14. Trees can be dropped at the parks between 8 a.m. and dusk.
Upcoming blood drive benefits North Hills charity
CHROME Federal Credit Union in Wexford is hosting a blood drive on Jan. 27 to help replenish the region’s supply and raise money for North Hills Community Outreach.
For every donor, Vitalant, which handles the blood collection, will make a donation to NHCO that will be matched by the credit union.

Road to close for bridge replacement
A section of North Boundary Road in Cranberry will be closed from 6 a.m. Jan. 16 until Jan. 18 for a PennDOT project to replace a temporary bridge that spans I-79.
Motorists should follow a detour that travels east onto North Boundary Road, right on Marshall Road, right on Rowan Road, right on Route 19 Perry Highway North and right back onto North Boundary.
Richland seeking to fill open water authority seat
Richland Township is accepting applications to fill a vacancy on the Richland Township Water Authority’s board of directors.
The board oversees operation of the authority, which distributes water to residents of Richland Township and Valencia borough and portions of Adams, Hampton and West Deer townships.
The water is purchased in bulk from West View Water. The authority’s employees maintain the waterlines and respond to customer inquiries.
Interested applicants for the volunteer position should send a letter of interest and a resume to township manager Dean Bastianinni, 4019 Dickey Road, Gibsonia, PA 15044.

Allegheny County hiring park rangers
The Allegheny County Parks Department is accepting applications for seasonal park rangers, including positions in North Park.
Park rangers learn valuable skills patrolling and interacting with visitors, leading public programming, building and maintaining trails, working on resource management projects such as tree plantings and invasive species removal, teaching outreach groups and managing volunteers.
Applicants must have a minimum of 45 college credits in parks and recreation management, biology, environmental science or a related field of study.
An equivalent combination of education and experience can be substituted. Applicants also must be certified in CPR when they are hired. The pay rate is $10 an hour.
