For these Rockies fans, the Nolan Arenado trade may be one misstep too many

Re: “Trade in Cards,” Jan. 30 news story

Seems to me that Rockies owner Dick Monfort and general manager Jeff Bridich are running a slaughterhouse for star athletes. Oh, but that’s the business Monfort knows.

Raise ‘em from young prospects and then butcher ‘em and send them on to those that know how to make ‘em even greater.

The Nolan Arenado trade is just another in a series of incompetent and insulting handlings of young stars leaving a trail of broken promises.

The way to a great business is to have the commitment to a winning team with top-notch winning players. That’s how a franchise becomes valuable. Striving for a bargain-basement business makes for both a losing business model and an uncompetitive, worthless franchise.

Sell the team to someone who cares. Can’t stand even watching on TV anymore. I’m not starting over again, complicit in this merry-go-round of terrible management.

Monfort and Bridich need to finally go.

From the time I learned the game, my heart and soul have belonged to Rockies baseball. Even after I moved away, frequent trips back to Denver and following the team on the road have been the norm.

The ineptitude of Rockies ownership and management — over the last six-plus years but especially this week — however, truly leaves me questioning: what is the point of rooting for this team? To the Monforts and Jeff Bridich: the fans deserve answers, and you must provide them.

To Nolan: it’s been a privilege to watch you here in Colorado. Thank you, and good luck on this new adventure.

The Rockies are fools. They are getting nothing for Nolan Arenado and giving $50 million away.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have one more run at the playoffs and save $15 million. His salary is about $35 million a year. If they were fiscally responsible, they would save $15 million dollars by keeping him one year and letting him opt-out. $15 million will buy a lot better talent then they are getting from St Louis in this trade.

Bridich must go. It might be time for the Monforts to sell also. Basic math says this deal stinks. The Dodgers probably would have offered more. Since you don’t care about winning why not trade to them? It is time for the Monforts to look in the mirror and ask if they care about this team. My 10 year old son could do a better deal. Please stop and think about this before it is too late.

Congratulations Colorado Rockies fans. You are now part of not one, but two Triple-A affiliates of major league baseball: The New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals. Our top prospects expected to be called up to the majors soon are outfielder Charlie Blackmon and infielder Trevor Story. Sorry, there are no pitching prospects at this time. Who do we have to thank for this demotion to the minor leagues? Dick “Rooftop Party Deck” Monfort and Jeff “Give ’Em Away” Bridich. Sincerely, A Former Fan.

I was at the first ever Rockies home game in 1993. I’ve been to hundreds of games. I’ve been to Spring Training a dozen times. I attended the World Series in 1997 when the Red Sox swept us. I watched Nolan Arenado win the Fall League MVP before he got to the majors. I’ve been a very loyal Rockies fan. Maybe I’ll become a Cardinals fan. Their GM and owners want to win.

Our country is a mess. Any comfort is good. I miss the comfort of the sports world.

1. The Broncos seem lost. They have no real owner, no consistency, no wining seasons, and not much hope down the road. But hey, we can see them on TV.

2. The Rockies went nowhere last season. They betrayed us this weekend and traded Arenado because they could not (yet again) make good on promises to improve the team around him. But hey, we can see them on TV when they play again.

3. The Avs are crushing it. We can’t see them.

4. The Nuggets are streaking. We can’t see them.

The greed of Comcast/Xfinity and Kroenke in the face of the pandemic and those of us stuck at home (I’m a two-time cancer survivor) — well, it makes me want to puke.
Comcast and Kroenke are the biggest Scrooges of all.
