The Port Huron Parks & Recreation Department has decided that a drive-thru would be the safest way for trick-or-treaters and their families to enjoy its 31st annual Halloween Stroll. Amid COVID-19, participants can experience Halloween scenes while collecting candy.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 31 at Desmond Landing on Third Street in Port Huron. The cost is $8 per carload for residents and $10 for non-residents. Pre-registration is required and can be completed online at porthuronrec.com/stroll.
“Moving location was not exactly what we wanted to do because we love our event at Sanborn Park, but we believe this effort will keep some type of normalcy and still provide Halloween fun for our community,” Port Huron Parks & Recreation Director Nancy Winzer said in a news release.
The department is joining forces with Port Huron Downtown Development Authority to combine the Halloween Stroll with Touch a Truck. The partnership will feature trucks on display, downtown businesses as trick-or-treating stations, with photo ops and spooky decorations.
Families are encouraged to decorate their cars for a Halloween parade and dress in costume, as photo ops will be available at the end of the drive-thru.
The event will follow social distancing regulations, and participating businesses will wear masks while distributing candy.
“My goal is to make this year’s Halloween Stroll the coolest drive-thru event that Port Huron has ever seen!” said Kati Gardner, co-supervisor of the Port Huron Parks & Recreation Department and event coordinator.
