Gila Forest offices closed

All Gila National Forest offices and ranger stations will be closed on Thursday, November 26. Regular business hours will resume Friday, November 27.

Despite the office closure, law enforcement officers will be on-duty on the holiday for the safety of visitors.

If you are planning to go and cut your Christmas tree make sure you have either bought a cutting permit in person, or that you have gone to: www.recreation.gov/tree-permits/gila to purchase your permit online.

Know Before You Go. Check the weather for the specific part of the forest you will be visiting at www.weather.gov/epz/. Remember to practice good campfire safety and respect your public lands by packing out your trash.

For information on the Gila National Forest, check out our website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/gila or join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter.

LDS food drive

Food donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be packed into food boxes. More than 1,000 of those boxes will be distributed by the state’s Aging and Long-Term Services Department to seniors and disabled adults. Each box contains up to two weeks’ worth of meals.

Representatives from the LDS church, Aging and Long-Term Services, as well as three shifts of volunteers, the first shift comprised of 25 community volunteers, will be at the Storehouse parking lot, socially distanced, masked, preparing the boxes.

New Mexico seniors are second in the nation for food insecurity. These efforts to get food out to New Mexico’s low-income seniors and disabled adults are complimented by the grab-n-go meal sites set up at senior centers across the state and the home delivered meal programs.
