Charles Scott Salons & Spas relocating to Avon: Short Takes on Avon, Avon Lake and North Ridgeville

AVON, Ohio — Charles Scott Salons & Spas is relocating from Crocker Park in Westlake to Avon, 34970 Detroit Road (across from Martin’s Deli).

“Charles Scott Salons & Spas are super excited to be joining the Avon community hopefully in mid January,” said Kelli Hosso, general manager in an email. “We will be relocating our team from our Crocker Park location to Avon. We will be providing all our current services at our new location.”

Services offered at Charles Scott include haircuts, color, styling, makeup and nail services, as well as spa services including facials, body treatments, massage, hair removal and more. The salon/spa caters to both men and women.

Charles Scott salons have been a part of the westside community for nearly 40 years. Owner Chaz Henline first opened a small salon in Lakewood. Eventually outgrowing that space, Henline moved the business to Rocky River in 1987. Charles Scott Salons & Spas became the first full-service salon and spa on the westside. In 1993, Henline opened a shop in Westlake and a few years ago relocated that salon to Crocker Park. Sadly Henline passed away earlier this year (May 18)..

The Rocky River location at 19025 Old Lake Road will remain.

Shout-out: Last week’s Short Takes column featured Avon’s very own Elf on the Shelf, but I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout-out to Avon’s own running banana. I saw him running down Detroit Road a few weeks ago and had to do a double take. Many others have reported seeing the running banana around town. Avon resident Matt Drol remains committed to his running workouts even in the cold weather. Now that’s dedication.

Avon's Running Banana

Avon’s running banana continues to delight motorists.

He first ran as a banana in the Cleveland half marathon in 2018.

“I had slacked on my training and wasn’t where I wanted to be to hit my time goal, so I decided, forget it… I’ll run as a banana,” said Drol. “I had the costume for the previous year’s Halloween. I ran the half marathon that day, then a few months later I ran an obstacle course race dressed up and just loved the energy and fun of it. So I decided to run all my races dressed as a banana starting in 2019. So far I’ve done seven half marathons, one full marathon and about four obstacle course races as a banana.

Since there were little to no races this year, Drol decided to have some fun and run around town in the banana suit. You can follow him on Instagram at just_a_running_banana.
