Some of us are not quite sold on staycations, especially if we’ve worked hard to make our homes a sanctuary. Why would we want to book a room in the city where we live and work when we have everything we need within our well-built stockade? And besides, packing is no fun.

But with nowhere else to go, staring at four beautifully decorated walls that aren’t ours doesn’t sound like a bad idea anymore. A staycation can be a sleeping cure, a chance to explore outside your own ‘hood, or simply a relaxing weekend that doesn’t include any chores. As well, hotels here have made a full-court press to attract locals with irresistible packages.

There’s more you can expect at Capella Singapore. “We’re constantly thinking of ways we can elevate our stay experience and ensure that our guests are enjoying unique, compelling activities that they will remember for years to come,” says General Manager Fernando Gibaja.

The hotel has partnered with local and international brands for a series of pop-up experiences designed to make you feel miles away even when you’re anything but.

In the month of December, staycationers can pick up new skills and insights with the myriad of life-enriching activities. Hone your handwriting at Montblanc calligraphy workshop (December 18, 2 to 4pm), or learn to lock down a groove with award-winning drummer Er Chow Kiat in a jam session (December 15, multiple timings).

Those with self-proclaimed black thumbs will benefit from a organic farming crash course with Edible Gardens City (December 18, 4-5pm), while animal lovers can get closer to nature with Wildlife Reserves Singapore’s keepers, vets, nutritionists (December 10, 2:30pm), as well as native species such as the Oriental Pied hornbill, reticulated python and pangolin from the Singapore Zoo (December 16, 230pm).

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to root around for a free weekend and ready our bags.
