‘Bidders from across the globe’ — Waldorf Astoria hotel contents will be auctioned off at Taunton mall – News – MetroWest Daily News, Framingham, MA

TAUNTON — Taunton will host “one of the largest and most anticipated auctions of the year” when the Silver City Galleria mall in Taunton serves as the display site of more than 15,000 items from the iconic and glamorous Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City.

If you’ve never visited the Park Avenue landmark, this is a unique opportunity to experience its historic splendor, having sheltered people like Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra, Winston Churchill and Herbert Hoover. You might even decide to take a piece or two home.

The auction is being organized by Kaminski Auctions, a Beverly-based auction company which has held auctions on behalf of celebrities like Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey. The live auction will begin Oct. 17 at the mall.

The hotel was completed in 1931 and was known for its art deco style. It is currently undergoing renovations and revamping.

According to the auction company, among the items for sale are 19th century French furniture from the hotel’s 142 tower suites, including the Windsor, Presidential and Royal Suites. Art, chandeliers and other decor from the hotel’s restaurants, bars and lounges will be up for bidding as well.

“We can’t wait to bring this immense, once-in-a-lifetime auction to life,” Frank Kaminski, CEO and Owner of Kaminski Auctions, said in a written statement. “Given the variety of items and the rich history of the property, we expect to attract bidders from across the globe.”

The range of the items up for bid is quite extensive, Kaminski said, meaning there’s something for everyone.

Proceeds from the auction will go to benefit St. Bartholomew’s Conservancy, whose mission is the renovation and preservation of St. Bartholomew’s Church and Community House — a landmark building across from the hotel.

Online bidding and previews at the mall are already up and running. To see a complete list of items, visit www.kaminskiauctions.com.
