$1,000 Fine Possible For Violating CT Travel Quarantine

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut could issue $1,000 fines for travelers from states on the coronavirus quarantine list if they don’t comply with quarantine rules. The rules also require travelers from those states to fill out an online form prior to arrival.

Enforcement of the fine will evolve over time, Gov. Ned Lamont said.

Spot checks will being performed at Bradley International Airport to make sure people have filled out the form before traveling. Airlines and travel agents are required to inform travelers about the form.

Travelers don’t need to quarantine if they enter the state within 72 hours of a negative viral test. People are still encouraged to quarantine regardless of the test result.

Lamont will also be issuing a new executive order either tonight or Tuesday clarifying some things regarding the travel quarantine. Among the items is what employers are empowered to do if an employee travels to a state on the quarantine list.

Connecticut’s coronavirus figures from over the weekend continued a trend of a low positive test rate of 0.6 percent. There were 162 positive test results out of 27,323 results. Another 10 deaths were reported since Friday and hospitalizations dropped by 12 patients down to 54.

There are 22 states on the travel quarantine list. The list was last updated July 14. States are added to the list if they have a daily positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a 10 percent or higher positivity rate on all tests over a 7-day rolling average.
